Inhalers

Inhalers explores the relationship between objects and people. A product of contemporary society defined by an invisible respiratory condition labelled, Asthma.

Like many popular artists before him, Wilcox has removed his objects from their natural environment and deployed without human presence. He isolates them photographically using his large format camera and studio to reveal traces of human interaction in the form of dirt, teeth marks and lipstick which have built up overtime. In doing so these mass produced objects become intriguingly fascinating, graphic and kitsch in form and design.

Wilcox’s still life approach has symbolised a banal “geeky” object of contemporary culture and rather then dictating its position in society leaves us questioning the attitudes towards it.
